Benefits of a Professional Organization | A Quick Summary

Posted on 08.06.2015

Last year, we published a 7-part series about joining a professional organization (check out the series here). These articles include a lot of information, so let’s do a quick summary of the benefits discussed in the series.

Networking

Belonging to a professional organization for your industry is a great way to build relationships with potential employers and fellow administrative professionals.  Many organizations provide member or company directories; using these can significantly increase your job opportunities.

Staying Up-To-Date

Professional organizations help keep you up-to-date with industry trends and technology. Technology is always changing and it’s important to stay abreast with changes and apply new information to be a more efficient and effective administrative professional. Keeping up with industry trends puts you on top of things and helps you stay relevant—or as my sister says, “hip to the lingo.”

Continuing Education

A lot of professional organizations provide opportunities for continuing education, certification, and training. Participating in continuing education and additional certifications proves to employers that you are dedicated and willing to learn new things and further develop your skill sets.

Self Confidence

This is a pretty simple concept: The more you develop your skills and knowledge, the more confidence you have in your career. Confidence supports credibility and helps cultivate new job opportunities and advancement.

These are just a few of the great benefits from joining professional organizations. There are many administrative professional organizations and we discuss a number of them in depth in the article series mentioned above.
