Last month was Military Family Appreciation Month, and in an effort to celebrate we asked you to help us donate to the National Military Family Association’s Operation Purple initiative. We donated $50 for every new student who enrolled with Career Step as a result of someone else’s referral. We’re proud to announce that we have donated $7,600 to the National Military Family Association with your help.
We want to thank you for all your support in this effort. Our Referral program is designed to reward you for sharing Career Step with others, and it’s awesome to see this program harnessed for a major community-building effort like this as well.
Our donation to the National Military Family Association will go to the Operation Purple program, which hosts a number of camps for children with a deployed or recently returned military parent. The camps focus on teaching children coping skills for dealing with the extra stresses of a parent absent due to deployment. Operation Purple camps also give kids a break from being different because their parent is deployed; at camp they have the chance to meet other kids who are dealing with very similar situations.
Here are a few quotes from camp participants, parents, and volunteers:
“The best thing about camp was how everyone was different but we were all military kids, so we all fit in!”
“My husband is deployed to Afghanistan. Operation Purple camp helped our kids accept a situation that they have no control over. They have life-long memories that they will treasure and it gave me a much needed break. Were it not for the generosity of your organization all this never could have happened.”
“I was awestruck when I visited the camp to see the campers, who just days before had been strangers, encouraging and helping one another. These kids bonded quickly and were given the opportunity to learn stress and coping strategies, learn a little about military culture and most of all have fun and make new friends. Thank you for your support and dedication to the youth of American’s military, our future!”
Thank you again!
