In order to be successful in your education, you need to follow a recipe. The recipe for education is just like any other—there are many factors that determine whether or not it is successful. For example, when making bread there are critical elements that make the difference between light, airy bread and a hard-as-a-rock flop. There are four basic ingredients in bread—flour, water, salt, and yeast. Can you just throw these ingredients into a bowl and expect to have great tasting bread? No! You have to follow a recipe, do some research, have patience, and practice. The same can be applied to your education. Can you be a pharmacy technician by just walking into a pharmacy? No! You will need to educate yourself by learning the top 200 drug list, laws and regulations, calculations, and become nationally certified in order to stand out in the field.
Let’s take a look at the recipe for success to become a Pharmacy Technician.
First, DESIRE YOUR OUTCOME. As Stephen Covey said, “Begin with the end in mind.” You must have the desire to be something more and believe that you can make it happen. Focus on the reason you started this course; why did you want to become a pharmacy technician in the first place? Visualize the end result, make a plan, and it will happen.
Second, JUST ACT. Results are not necessarily based on what you can do, but what you will do. Develop a strategy and an action plan to achieve each of your educational goals. A strategy might be to get help with calculations or to form a study group. Start now to understand how to generate goals, strategies, and action plans that work. Don’t just sit on the sidelines waiting for a new profession to come to you, grab success by the horns and take charge.
Third, DO WHAT WORKS. Notice that results are working and monitor your actions to get the results you want. Never give up! If your first attempt didn’t work—don’t quit. If you did not pass the final exam your first try, there are still two more opportunities for you to successfully pass! If you don’t give up, you cannot fail. Michael Jordan said, “If you’re trying to achieve, there will be roadblocks. I have had them; everybody has had them, but obstacles don’t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don’t turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.”
Fourth, FOCUS ON THE POSITIVE. Remove doubt and fear from your way of thinking. You will be pleasantly surprised by how your effectiveness multiples by 10 times when your thoughts are guiding your actions! One technique used by professional athletes is visualization. According to one theory, if you see a perfect golf swing 1,000 times in your mind, it’s better practice than actually swinging the golf club 10,000 times. Start each day by envisioning your goals. Get into the habit of achieving success by envisioning it first.
Fifth, BE MOTIVATED. No one is going to push you harder than yourself. In the end, it is up to you to light your own fire and push yourself. With the proper self-motivation, dreams are made, goals are set, and deepest desires are met. Have a plan for success. Follow the recipe by setting daily goals and planning out your priorities from top to bottom. Finish each task before starting another. Having goals outlined in your life will give you the drive and motivation you need to become happy and successfully in your education and life.
